In a major setback to the RJD, a special CBI court on Saturday convicted former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad and 15 others in a fodder scam case 21 years after it had surfaced, while acquitting six others including another ex-CM Jagannath Mishra.
Lalu has been serving a prison term in the Dumka fodder scam case and was airlifted to AIIMS, New Delhi, in January for treatment of various illnesses
RANCHI: Twelve days after the Jharkhand high court suspended the jail term of RJD president Lalu Prasad in a fodder scam case, lawyers of jailed former Bihar chief minister on Thursday secured his release order from the special CBI court here, following which he has been set free.
Lalu s lawyer Prabhat Kumar said, “We have fulfilled the conditions set by the high court, including the furnishing of two sureties of Rs one lakh each and depositing a fine of Rs 10 lakh. The court has now granted the release order.

RANCHI: RJD president Lalu Prasad will have to wait for some more days before he is released despite securing bail in fodder scam cases as advocates in the state are abstaining from court work due to the surge in Covid-19 cases.
Prasad is serving jail time after being convicted by a special CBI court in connection to a fodder scam case related to fraudulent withdrawal from the Dumka treasury. Last Saturday, the Jharkhand high court granted him bail in the case. Prasad has already got bail in fodder scam cases related to Deoghar and Chaibasa treasuries.
