by the president s defenders, if he testifies in congress or if his name appears in the report. that s, you know and that s where things stand right now. laura, i mean, one of the things we know about this president is he s not exactly subtle in hiding what he actually thinks. sometimes, he s actually oddly transparent, perhaps even unintentionally so in conversations. so we have really no idea what he may have said to michael cohen over dinner at mar-a-lago or over the phone or at any point. we have heard, when the president was asked about, you know, the idea of a pardon for paul manafort, saying that nothing is off the table, which as a public statement is certainly something, you know, paul manafort and his team, no doubt, heard, as well. well, compare and contrast what s happening with michael cohen and paul manafort. one of the things that the president had to say about paul manafort, even compared him at one point, if you recall, to what al capone and how poorly he was bei
investigation. congress gave immunity, and they were prosecuted. here, he s pled guilty, so he could be a witness, and i think mueller would have a harder time objecting. i want to get a quick break in. we ll continue this conversation because it is an important one. i want to see what everybody makes of something we touched on briefly, that change in tone about michael cohen from the president from staunchly defending him immediately after the raid to what he s saying now. later, an update on the massive earthquake that has done damage in alaska. we ll bring you there live. we ll be right back. after walking six miles at an amusement park, bill s back needed a vacation from his vacation. so he stepped on the dr. scholl s kiosk. it recommends our best custom fit orthotic to relieve foot, knee, or lower back pain so you can move more. dr. scholl s. born to move. little things can be a big deal. that s why there s otezla. otezla is not a cream.
the president s former personal attorney said in court that he broke the law at the president s direction, but the justice department has long taken the position that a sitting president cannot be indicted. that is a renewed focus on congress, which does have the power to impeach or remove a president for treason, bribery, other high crimes and misdemeanors, something president trump brought up in his fox interview this morning. i don t i don t know how you can impeach somebody who s done a great job. i ll tell you what, if i ever got impeached, i think the market would crash. i m going to dig into that claim about the market later in the show. but first, let s take a closer look at how the impeachment process works. it starts in the house of representatives, which draws up the articles of impeachment. think of the house as a prosecutor and the articles of impeachment as a document detailing the alleged crimes. only the house can bring charges against a president. but any individ
we ve learned that separated children have been dispatched to 14 different states. again, with no mechanism to match them back to their parents, and remember where we ve been as this crisis has grown over the past several days, president trump and his administration have refused to acknowledge this was a problem of their own creation. and a problem that could be stopped quickly. i say it s very strongly the democrats fault. they re obstructionists. congress and the courts created this problem, and congress alone can fix it. people said look, you ripped the families apart even though it is the law, it s heartless. that s the law, and it s what the democrats gave us. we re willing to change it today if they want to get in and negotiate. why doesn t the president pick up the phone and pick up the policy? he said he hates it. i think the president is trying to find a long-term fix. why don t we have congress change the laws? no, congress would fix this tomorrow. you can t do i
a large part of the justice department. let s step back from the political shenanigans of what s going on. this is huge department hugely responsible for certain things, looking that civil rights, sessions in terms of structuring that department. keeping those staffers involved at work, doing their job every day, outside of the politics this also a hugely critical arm of government. a very complicated thing. if he wants sessions and rosenstein out because he wants an official to fire mueller and they wouldn t do it, he has to have a confirmed official in that job. the focus on congress as anything else, but rosenstein has to fire mueller ear rosenstein, if he wants mueller fired he s got to order someone to do it. brand goes, there s no one who s confirmed below her who has that position or that authority in the chart to do it.
