no fault of their own, it would be ideal. but only in the abstract to have a stand-alone bill, but this is too valuable a piece of legislation for the republicans in congress and for president trump not to use it to leverage something. so, i would not be surprised if it s attached to either any budgetary bill or infrastructure bill as the price to pay. and here s the one thing that i think trump, president trump, will have to reckon with as he starts his second year in office, is he can t go to congress and say pay for the wall as the price of daca and ignore his pledge that mexico is supposed to pay for it, so let s look and see how he deals with that. well, david, it s interesting what lynn said, because a few days ago the president tweeted out that in order to get something done on daca, democrats would have to work with him to build the wall. do you think democrats are going to play ball here? i think democrats would be well advised to get on the same
through. they did get that, they did get, as lynn said, justice gorsuch nominated. they did get bits and pieces of their agenda passed in their first year. the president ended the year with some momentum. he still has low approval ratings in the mid to high 30s. he tweeted yesterday or the day before that he had the same approval rating as president obama at this time in his term, which is not true. the real clear politics average, obama was at 49, trump is at 39, so he s far behind and obama had a far worse economy, trump had a robust economy he was handed off in that situation, but look, president trump has three more years to demonstrate that he can make good on the things that he promised when he campaigned. the big picture, he s spending a lot of time focused on comparing himself to obama instead of just proceeding with some of the things we talked about earlier in the hour like daca, like the border wall, like the budget, et cetera. lynn sweet, david swerdlick, we have to leave
rallies to sort of present a public imagine, if only for a few minutes or certainly for himself as well. but president who is in command at least of his base. if he can t be the president of a unified country he can serm be the president of his base. he does that all the time. the notion that he would pick that as the location to pardon or at least speak some nice word about the maycounty sheriff is likely possible. he wants to weigh in the politics of it. border politics as lynn said is really core to the trump brand. if he can t pull this off in the right way, it will be one more political setback after a week in which he s had quite a few. lynn sweet and errol louis, always grateful to have you here. thank you. tune in monday night, tomorrow night, a special cnn event coming at you after losing

situation. and what kind of a response would yyou expect from the president when it comes no tease neo confederates and clan sympathizers that clearly ignited trouble in virginia? sure, boris. again, as far as an immediate reaction, like lynn said, i think at a minimum the president by now should have been able to come out with a tweet, a method of communication he prefers and uses often for matters important and trivial, and make a statement similar to the one that house speaker paul ryan did. just a full denunciation of any kind of white national sympathies that would give rise to some kind of confrontation. that being said, more fully the president if he wants in the coming days to be seen as someone and it s not clear in this moment how he wants to play this as someone who wants to expand his base, expand the number of people who have confidence in him to bring people together if he can do
