NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Timely hits from Josie Muffley and Mack Leonard and a strong effort from the bullpen led the No. 3 Florida State softball team (48-8) past Syracuse (24-26-1) to move on to the ACC Semifinals Thursday afternoon at Melissa Cook Stadium in Notre Dame, Ind. The Seminoles will play the winner of Louisville and Virginia Tech at 1 p.m. tomorrow on ACC Network. The Seminoles got off to a slow start as the Orange struck first in the top of the second inning. The Noles gained life as Muffley led of the bottom of the third inning with her second home run of the season to tie the game. A single and two walks loaded the bases for Leonard, and she ripped the 3-2 pitch into left field to score Michaela Edenfield and Kalei Harding to give the Noles a 3-1 lead. It was Leonard again in the bottom of the fifth inning bringing home Harding with a single to give the Noles a little insurance. LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Florida State freshman pitcher Makenna Reid was named one of 10 finalists for the 2023 NFCA/TUCCI Freshman of the Year award. The Seminoles have had a finalist for the second consecutive season as Michaela Edenfield was a top 10 finalist last season.
Reid has been phenomenal in the circle all season for the Seminoles. She holds a perfect 12-0 record. In 35 appearances, Reid has a 1.00 ERA and has allowed just 10 earned runs all season while leading the team in strikeouts. In ACC play, Reid posted an ACC best 0.63 ERA in 33.1 innings of work and allowed just three earned runs all season.
Reid was a Second Team All-ACC selection and was also named to the ACC All-Freshmen Team.
Reid and the Seminoles will be back in action tomorrow at 1 p.m. for the ACC Semifinals on ACC Network.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State softball pitcher Kathryn Sandercock was selected one of 14 athletes selected at the Athletes Unlimited Draft on Monday night.
Sandercock will leave Tallahassee as one of the greatest pitchers in school history. On Sunday against Louisville, Sandercock became just the fourth Seminole to eclipse 100 career wins in the circle. Sandercock already holds the FSU record for career saves record and the record for saves in a single season. Sandercock holds a 100-11 record during her time for the Garnet and Gold. Sandercock is having a career-best season with a career low ERA of 1.22 and a 21-3 record.
Sandercock and the Seminoles will be back in action this Thursday as they search for their 19th ACC Tournament Championship.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State senior pitcher Kathryn Sandercock won her third ACC Pitcher of the Week award of the season on Tuesday morning. This is the fourth time a Seminole has been named the ACC Pitcher of the Week as Makenna Reid won the award on Apr. 25, and Sandercock won the award on Mar. 28 and Apr. 11. This is the seventh time in her career that Sandercock has been named ACC Pitcher of the Week.
The senior from McLean, Va., put together another impressive performance this past weekend as she picked up three wins in three games against Louisville. On Friday night, Sandercock got the start and went five innings and allowed just two runs. Sandercock re-entered the game as the Cardinals trailed by two with the bases loaded and the nation's home run leader up to bat. Sandercock recorded the strikeout to clinch the ACC Regular Season Championship for the Seminoles. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Devyn Flaherty hit her first home run of the season in the bottom of the 11th inning to give the third-ranked Florida State softball team (46-8, 21-2) their 12th-straight victory with a 6-4 victory over Louisville (35-16, 16-6) in 11 innings Saturday afternoon at JoAnne Graf Field. Saturday's game marked the longest game at the Seminole Softball Complex since May 26, 2018, when the Seminoles defeated LSU in 11 innings in the Super Regional. The win increased the Seminoles' winning streak to 12 games, their longest streak of the season. The Cardinals struck first as they scored runs in the first three innings to take a commanding 4-0 lead. The Noles were able to get on the board in the bottom of the third as Jahni Kerr extended her hitting streak to 12 game with a RBI double to score Josie Muffley from first.
