New natural flood management scheme helps protect homes

New natural flood management scheme helps protect homes The next phase of the Environment Agency s Lustrum Beck flood scheme is complete - and helped protect homes in Stockton-On-Tees during Storm Christoph From: One of the storage basins full with flood water during Storm Christoph. New natural flood management features have helped protect a Teesside town from flooding just weeks after they were completed. Three storage basins designed to hold back flood water upstream at Coatham Wood and reduce river levels in Stockton-on-Tees successfully filled up during heavy rain as Storm Christoph swept across the region. The temporary storage areas then slowly drained the water back into Coatham Beck, a tributary of Stockton’s Lustrum Beck, as the rain eased.

Critical flood defences upgrade in Trusthorpe — Agenparl

(AGENPARL) – LONDON (UNITED KINGDOM), mar 19 gennaio 2021 The work is being carried out on the land drainage outfall. These outfalls are designed to prevent back flow from the sea causing flooding inland during extremely high tides. This work will better protect 25 homes which are included in the 20,000 properties that the Saltfleet and Gibraltar Point Strategy sets out to protect. The project will take 8 weeks to complete and will reduce the risk of flooding similar to the tidal surge in December 2013 when the road and nearby properties were flooded. The outfall upgrade will include the replacement of the existing gate, which will be closed when high water is forecast. The air vents that lead to the sea and prevent flood water escaping will also be raised to reduce the risk of overtopping.
