Flight Lieutenant Bhawana Kanth, the first woman in India to qualify for combat mission in a fighter jet, today became the first woman fighter pilot to participate in the Republic Day fly-past.
Bhawana Kanth joined the Indian Air Force fighter squadron in 2017 and flew her first solo flight on an MiG-21 Bison in March 2018. She is currently posted at a fighter base in the western sector.

New Delhi: Flight Lieutenant Bhawana Kanth on Tuesday (January 26, 2021) became the first Indian woman fighter pilot to participate in a Republic Day flypast at Rajpath.
Bhawana Kanth was part of the Air Force tableau which had a theme Indian Air Force: Touch the Sky with Glory on the 72nd Republic Day parade. They showcased scale models of the Light Combat Aircraft, Light Combat Helicopter, Su-30 MK-I aircraft and the Rohini radar.

Flight Lieutenant Bhawana Kanth, the first woman in India who qualified for combat mission in a fighter jet, will add another first to her name - she will be the first woman fighter pilot to participate in the Republic Day flypast.
Along with Mohana Singh and Avani Chaturvedi, Flight Lt Kanth was the first woman selected for the Indian Air Force s (IAF) fighter stream in 2016. Less than two years later, the three women joined their respective squadrons. Marking the dawn of empowered women-led #NewIndia Flt Lt Bhawana Kanth is set to become the first woman fighter pilot to take part in the Republic Day parade.
