Mythological references in Andrea Palagiano: Self Conscious in MassMu’s Studio M dovetail with MassMu’s 2021 NEA Big Read, based on Circe, by Madeline Miller, a book reimagining the story of a mythological Greek sorceress.
HIGHLIGHTS
The exhibition reflects the relationship between introversion and projected self. The integration of figure and pattern and the application of layers indicate the thought process in defining self within society. She is inspired by characters from Greek mythology and 16th century Italian artist Caravaggio’s sense of drama. Living in a different country every year of her childhood introduced Palagiano to varying cultures and customs, sparking her love of sociology and psychology.

Alana Cartwright: Clothed in Resilience can be seen in the Massillon Museum’s Studio M from March 6 through March 28. It is the first of two annual university student exhibitions MassMu will host to provide a venue for emerging artists and their perspectives.
HIGHLIGHTS
Clothed in Resilience is a visual diary expressing peoples’ journeys to reclamation after experiencing sexual violence. The photography exhibition includes images juxtaposed with articulations that capture the essence of healing and recovery.
Alana Cartwright, a visual artist based in Cleveland, anticipates graduating from Cleveland State University in 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in studio art, a minor in Spanish, and a primary concentration in photography. Especially interested in conceptual work and street photography, she focuses on the complexities of the human condition, frequently using the human figure t
