Open house historical exhibits across downtown to be part of Flashback Festival

The Flashback Festival, a celebration Hanfordâs 130th birthday as a city, will include a number of historical exhibits on Saturday, July 30. The whole event will stretch from Thursday Night Market on July 28 to the night of July 30, but most of the historical displays, exhibits and events are scheduled Saturday between 3 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Exhibits will take place at designated locations within walking distance of the Civic Center Park. Carnegie Museum of Kings County The Carnegie Museum of Kings County will cut the ribbon for the new organization on Friday and open its door for the public during the Flashback Festival.

50s themed dance to return to Hanford as part of Flashback Festival

Among the events planned for Hanfordâs Flashback Festival is a 1950s-themed dance called a Sock Hop, which has roots in town going back decades. The event, which will take place from 7-10 p.m. Friday, July 30, in Civic Auditorium, takes after the Hanford tradition of Melco dances, said Hanford Chamber of Commerce President Amory Marple. She said the 130th birthday was a perfect time to bring a 50s-themed dance back to town. âThe Chamber will all be dressed up in 1950s clothes, with 50s themed decorations,â Marple said. âThe band doesnât play music as far back as the 50s, they play stuff from the 60s, so it will be a little disjointed but overall it will be a themed Sock Hop.â
