high levels of benzene near the houston-area chemical plant that caught fire this week. casey stiegel live in dallas on that. they just had a press conference where they would not give any specific information about the national guard but were working to get more on that. we can tell you this new shelter in place order was just issued early this morning in response to the latest environmental air samples that came back alerting to high levels of a chemical in the air called benzene. it is at unsafe levels according to health officials. in response schools have been canceled. folks being told to stay indoors. all of this going down in deer park, texas, a suburb of 33,000 people or so outside of houston where just yesterday crews got all of the flames out. look at these pictures at the intercontinental terminals company, a petrochemical storage facility.
that was done by the company itself. they say that when they tested the air immediately around the plant that the levels were below hazardous levels. what has scientists a little dodgy about that is that they re worried about the long term effects. no hospitals have reported anybody coming in with respiratory illness associated with this. everybody has been accounted for at the plant. but they say that these particular chemicals and the ones that were inside the barrels, eight of them burning at this time. and it is the one that scientists are concerned about. there are theories who say there are no safe levels to be exposed to. so firefighters continuing to try and get these flames out. they actually intensified overnight due to a water pressure issue that has sense been rem readied.
from florida all the way up into the south into tennessee over towards the carolinas. how much rain are we eventually talking about here? it s looking like widespread we are going to be seeing at least two to three inches of rain in some spots this will be piling up even more. you start to see some of these yellows and reds, getting up to 4, to 5, to 6 inches. other spots maybe up to a foot. there is your forecasted radar. put it in motion for you. stop it there 3:00 p.m. looks like we have made landfall by then. guys that s when things will be the worst along the florida coast. jillian: we know you will being keeping us updated. rob: massive fire tearing through one of europe s amusements park. park in germany. officials say it started in a warehouse and then the fire spread to the rides. you can see thick, black smoke pour into the sky. look at that 25,000 people had to be evacuated as hundreds of firefighters work to put these flames out. jillian: uss arizona memorial at harley harb
