It asked for retired health professionals and others interested in joining a huge volunteering effort to get the community vaccinated. And, it has been overwhelmed with offers of help - including from retired nurses, GPs, dentists and even vets. It even has a social media manager training to be a vaccinator. Since receiving the delivery of the Oxford Astra Zeneca vaccine on Saturday, it has vaccinated more than 200 patients - most of them over 80 years old - at Fisher Medical Centre, Skipton.

Skipton starts giving out first Covid vaccines to Craven residents today

VACCINATION against Covid-19 has begun in Skipton. The first doses have started to be administered at Skipton Hospital making it a landmark day in the battle against coronavirus in the district. GP practice ‘hubs’ and some hospital sites across the district, including Skipton Hospital and Bradford Royal Infirmary, have started giving vaccinations to patients aged 80 and above who are already attending hospital as an outpatient, and/or have been discharged home after a hospital stay. Dr James Thomas, a GP at Fisher Medical Centre in Skipton and clinical chair of NHS Bradford District and Craven Clinical Commissioning Group said: “I would like to give a huge thank you to all those patients who have taken up the opportunity to come and have their coronavirus vaccination. It’s a really exciting moment to be here today giving these life-saving vaccinations.
