The first day of 2021 started in Taiwan with fireworks displays across the country, including at the Taipei 101 skyscraper in the north and Kaohsiung s Love River in the south.

An estimated 38,000 people attended the New Year s countdown in Taipei, close to the 40,000 limit set by the city government, while the Kaohsiung celebrations were closed to live audiences and were streamed live.
