Northlight Interplay
Northlight Theatre s Interplay New Play Development Program virtual readings continue with Wright/Rand, a two-hander by Jeffrey Hatcher and Eric Simonson. The play is about the friendship between architect Frank Lloyd Wright and writer/philosopher Ayn Rand whose The Fountainhead protagonist was inspired by Wright. Artistic director BJ Jones plays Wright opposite Tracy Michelle Arnold s Rand. David Ira Goldstein directs.
Premieres at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, April 18, followed by a live, post-show discussion. Available on demand through Thursday, April 22. Admission is free, but donations are accepted and registration is required. See northlight.org/events/interplay-wright-rand.

Ridgewood-based First Flight Theatre Company will present a video-on-demand reading of “White Desert,” a 1923 drama by Maxwell Anderson, online from Feb. 24-28 to kickoff to its new “Plays of Passion” series.
The play, not performed since its Broadway debut and never published, was found among the many saved writings in the Maxwell Anderson collection at the University of Texas in Austin.

On Monday, Jan. 23, 1989, surrealist artist Salvador Dali died at the age of 84.
On Saturday, Jan. 23, 2021, the Ridgewood-based First Flight Theatre Company will bring him back to life with a virtual performance of “Salvador,” the Rick Young short play imagining the waning years of the eccentric Spanish artist’s life.
The production will be performed live online 7 p.m. Sunday, then be available for on-demand viewing through 11 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27. A benefit performance for The Actors Fund, donations start at $10.
The play follows Dali as he sits in the plaza in front of the Teatro-Museo Dalí in Figueres, Spain, greeting guests as they arrive from all over the world to take a look at his collection and reminiscing about his art, life, loves and losses. The Ridgewood-based First Flight Theatre Company was created in November 2019 but has yet to take off, grounded by the coronavirus.
The not-for-profit troupe “devoted to presenting the plays of 20th century American playwright Maxwell Anderson” and other playwrights who “instill poetry in their writing” has had a couple of test-flight readings and workshop productions over the past year, but still awaits the day it can mount its first full-fledged work.
