TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) â Tropical Storm Elsa continues its fast trek toward the Windward Islands.
Else, in the western Atlantic, is about 800 miles east-southeast of the Windward Islands with highest sustained winds of 45 mph. It s moving rapidly west-northwest at 29 mph.
Elsa s forecast has it moving west-northwest through the Caribbean Sea this weekend as a tropical storm. While some gradual strengthening is expected over the next few days, there are still some hurdles this weekend.
Its quick movement will hinder ideal development from happening in the short-term. It s also possible Elsa s path can take it over some of the landscape of the Caribbean islands, particularly Cuba. The upper level wind shear, though, is weak but not weak enough to allow rapid strengthening.
