The NBC2 First Alert Hurricane Team is tracking the latest in the tropics. Our attention now turns towards Tropical Storm Philippe which formed in the Atlantic Basin Saturday evening. As of 11 AM Sunday, the storm is moving west at 12 mph and is located 1,175 miles West of the Cabo Verde Islands with Gusts clocking in around 65 mph. The storm will continue to gradually strengthen and could near hurricane strength by the middle of the week.
The NBC2 First Alert Hurricane Team is tracking Tropical Storm Ophelia off the coast of the southeastern U.S. as it aims towards the Carolina this weekend.
As of the Sunday 11 p.m. update, Franklin continues to show signs of further strengthening with sustained winds of 105 mph. By Tuesday, Franklin could pick wind speeds up to 130 mph by Tuesday morning making it a Category 4 storm.
