Wind-driven fire threatens homes in Old Town
The fire burned just over an acre, Fire Chief Justin Vincent said in an email.
Personnel from Fairfield and Suisun City brought it under control. Travis Air Force Base personnel covered the Suisun City fire station.
The fire did cross West Street and began spot fires in the front yards of homes across the street.
It also threatened several homes on West and California streets.
The fire broke out in an empty field near the corner of West and Morgan streets.
Suisun City police made an arrest for someone with warrants that was believed to be on the scene just prior to the fire, Police Chief Aaron Roth said in an email.
Suisun fire division chief wraps up 27-year stint with department
SUISUN CITY The City Council honored retiring Fire Division Chief Carmen Maio, who began his career in 1994 as a volunteer.
Maio has held numerous posts over the years. Among his many accomplishments, Fire Chief Justin Vincent noted, was Maio being the city’s fire marshal.
“We owe you a great deal of gratitude,” Vincent told Maio.
“This is bittersweet,” Mayor Lori Wison said. “I see this as a huge loss.”
“I started as a youngster,” Maio said. “It does go by quick.”
Maio, an avid sailor, will enjoy his hobby. He said it would feel strange to not go to the fire station but he would be sailing new horizons.
