NEW PHILADELPHIA Health Commissioner Vickie Ionno is urging everyone in New Philadelphia to get the COVID-19 vaccine to bring a quick end to the pandemic. We think immunizing is the way out of this pandemic, she told city council on Monday. We re hoping people will take advantage of that when they can, when it becomes available for them.
The first shipment of the Moderna vaccine arrived in New Philadelphia on Dec. 22. The health department received 200 doses that day, and another 100 doses this week.
On Monday, the health department began administering the vaccine. Ionno and Fire Chief Jim Parrish were the first people to be inoculated, followed by EMS personnel in the fire department.
