New Zealand’s Andy Maloney, one of the victorious America’s Cup crew earlier this year in Auckland, took a first-day lead in the 65
th Finn Gold Cup at Porto - which double as the Finn World Championships - after placing third and second in the first two races.
Meanwhile his America’s Cup teammate and defending champion Josh Junior is in fifth position after placing tenth and fifth.
Junior, one of four previous world champions involved in this prestigious event, hasn’t raced a major Finn event since his victory in 2019.
Switzerland’s current world number one Nils Theuninck is four points adrift of Maloney on nine points, having finished second and seventh.
