Assam earthquake: Two persons die of shock, roads and buildings damaged

Express News Service GUWAHATI: Two persons died due to shock while at least 10 others were injured in Wednesday’s 6.4 Magnitude earthquake in Assam which also left roads and buildings damaged. Ten aftershocks of varying magnitudes from 2.9 to 4.7 on the Richter scale were felt between 7.51 am to 5.40 pm having its epicenter mostly in Sonitpur district on the north bank of the Brahmaputra. The earthquake was felt across Northeast, Bihar, West Bengal, and Bangladesh. “Two persons died due to shock/cardiac arrest. The deaths were reported from Chandrapur in Kamrup (Metro) and Nagaon districts. We received reports that at least 10 people were injured in different parts of the state,” Assam State Disaster Management Authority Chief Executive Officer, GD Tripathi said.

We have also made concerted efforts to boost oxygen generation and storage capacity in Assam, making it an oxygen surplus state.

A release from the Indian mission in Bhutan said that Bhutan would supply liquid oxygen to India from a new plant being set up at the Motanga Industrial Estate, Samdrup Jongkhar district by S.D. Cryogenics Gases Pvt. Ltd, a Bhutanese company. Every day, 40 metric tonnes of liquid oxygen produced by the oxygen plant would be exported to Assam using cryogenic tankers. The oxygen plant has domestic investment of 51 per cent by S.D. Cryogenics and FDI component of 49 per cent by Meghalaya Oxygen Pvt Ltd, an Assam-based Indian company.
