We decided to abide by our conscience and consciously decided to come together to help the rural people,” said Ranchi-based Kuldeep Tirkey, 33, central president of the JCYA. Nearly 20 members of the JCYA have contributed money to distribute dry ration kits comprising rice (6kg), dal (1kg), soyabean (1kg), edible oil (1kg) and masks. “Some of us are employed and a few are students. Those who are employed are contributing from their own salary while those who are students contribute from their pocket money. (Photo supplied) An archdiocese in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand has launched a free lunch service for relatives of Covid-19 patients hospitalized in the state capital’s biggest hospital. The Archdiocese of Ranchi started the humanitarian initiative on May 4 outside the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS). More than 300 people receive a free lunch every day and the number will gradually increase in size, Auxiliary Bishop Theodore Mascarenhas of Ranchi told UCA News on May 5.

Ranchi: The Ranchi Catholic Church on Tuesday started a free lunch service for relatives of patients hospitalised at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims). On the inaugural day, around 350 persons were served packed lunch, which comprises rice, dal, chicken curry and vegetables along with bottles of mineral water. Speaking on the occasion, Ranchi archbishop Felix Toppo said, God has been good to us and this goodness needs to be shared with the less fortunate, especially at this difficult moment. Bishop of Ranchi, Theodore Mascarenhas, stressed that the church will continue to work for the poor and help the needy as long as possible.
