(CNS) - A suspected hit-and-run driver was in critical condition Tuesday morning after he crashed into a big rig parked on an Escondido street, police said. The crash happened about 8:20 p.m. Monday on Felicita Road near Montview Drive, just north of Interstate 15, said Escondido police Sgt. T. Jimenez. Investigators determined a 26-year-old man struck at least one vehicle while traveling southbound on Felicita Road, then crashed into a big rig tow truck parked near Montview Drive, Jimenez said. The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was partially ejected through the windshield of his vehicle, the sergeant said. His vehicle also caught fire, but officers were able to pull him from the wreckage before he was caught in the blaze.

Driver involved in several crashes strikes semi in Escondido, suffers serious injuries

ESCONDIDO  A driver suspected in multiple hit-and-run crashes Monday night in Escondido suffered serious injuries after striking a parked tow truck and being thrown from his car, police said. It happened about 8:20 p.m. near where Felicita Road turns to West Felicita Avenue at Montview Drive, according to Escondido police Sgt. Ryan Hicks. Investigators believe the 26-year-old man had struck several other vehicles on Felicita Road and was fleeing from those crashes when he crashed into the large commercial tow truck, Sgt. Erik Witholt said. After being thrown from his car, medics took the man to Palomar Medical Center with “severe injuries,” Witholt said. Based on the “multiple hit and runs,” police believe the driver may have been impaired, Hicks said.
