Midweek Preview: Central Michigan

The Irish continue their eight-game homestand with a midweek contest against regional foe Central Michigan. 12 of their next 16 games will come from Frank Eck Stadium and the Irish own a 6-3 record at home so far this season.  The Irish and Chippewas will face off for the 36th time in program history. Notre Dame holds a 21-13-1 advantage in the all-time series and the Irish are 16-9-1 in games played at home. Central Michigan sports a 17-9 overall record and are 9-3 in MAC play. The Chippewas have won nine of their last 10 games and are coming off a series win over Bowling Green where they won three of the four games in their first series at home since 2019.

Irish Meet Army in NCAA Tournament Opener

FOR STARTERS  The Irish enter the NCAA Tournament with a 14-3 record (14-3 ACC) and finished the regular season second in the ACC standings, Notre Dame’s best finish since joining the conference in 2014. This will be the first ever meeting between Notre Dame and Army. Notre Dame posted five sweeps in the spring portion of its 2020-21 campaign, including a road straight-set win at #23 Georgia Tech in its penultimate match of the regular season. The Irish are one of four ACC teams to reach the NCAA Tournament and are joined by Georgia Tech, Louisville and Pittsburgh. Notre Dame owned a 3-1 mark against those other three ACC tournament teams this season, including road sweeps of Louisville and Georgia Tech.

Share COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State won the opener of this huge, three-game series on Friday, 7-4. Michigan evened the series at one win apiece today with a 7-0 victory. Game 3 will be a nationally televised broadcast tomorrow (Sunday) at Noon on ESPN3. Ohio State, which had its five-game winning streak snapped, is now 13-8 on the season and Michigan is 14-7. Ohio State sent national pitcher of the week Seth Lonsway to the mound for his typical Saturday start. The junior struck out 10, after striking out 17 Indiana Hoosiers last week, but gave up five hits and five walks that lead to four earned runs. He drops to 1-4 with the loss.

Irish Fall 2-1 in Overtime to No 18 Oklahoma State

STILLWATER, Okla. The Notre Dame women’s soccer team (6-6-0) gave No. 18 Oklahoma State (12-3-1) all it had and then some on Sunday afternoon, falling 2-1 in overtime. The Fighting Irish outshot the Cowgirls 10-9 and had several near chances to pull ahead in the second half.  Sophomore midfielder Maddie Mercado secured Notre Dame’s lone goal of the game via a free kick during the 27th minute. It marked her second goal of the season, for she has now scored in two straight games.  HOW IT HAPPENED Notre Dame nearly got on the board first in the 11th minute when Kiki Van Zanten fired a shot off her left foot from about 25 yards. The ball soared to the left-side upper-90, missing the mark by inches as it hit the crossbar and ricocheted out.
