Costs. Reporter Public Schools are the big winner in the brown budget. Over the past four years, california has increased spending by billions of dollars for education. Grades k12 will get nearly 75 billion this year. Thats 1. 5 billion more than januarys budget. An increase of 4,000 per student compared to six years ago. So when you hear people saying we dont get enough money, thats real money. But not everyone is happy with the increase. Advocates insist schools should be getting more money. There are some schools, even though they got a bump, its wiped out by the pension cost. So there wont be money in classrooms in those schools. Thats what were being funded at, the minimum.
