Southbound 101 is open after a drive by injured two people. That shooting closed a section of the highway Near West Side road for nearly four hours. Abc7 News Reporter Wayne Freedman is live with the story tonight. Wayne . Reporter good afternoon, dan. The freeway is open but we are still seeing the back up. Ee see some here at central district. That is mckinley drive. See the traffic backed up over there. The closure was just about ending about one hour ago. By then the back up had extended to close to a mile in the north direction. Meantime the investigation is continuing at this point as to what happened and who was shooting who and why. According to the chp, they received a report of the shooting just past noon on highway 101 south of west field road, west side road. All theyre saying at this point is that an unidentified vehicle pulled up alongside another and opened fire on the two victims inside. What caliber, how many shots unknown. Its a motive we dont know right now. Despite being hit by the bullets, the victims survive. The vic simms arent talking. The chp will not say if this was targeted or if it was random, but they are determined to find the shooters. Here is chp spokesman j. D. Pwhat are the tools you have to find this car . We are probably going to mainly rely on witness and victim statements, what kind of descriptions they can give. Technology wise, this is kind of far off in the bay area on 101 to have a lot of surveillance, cameras and things like that. Grand jury findings out tonight accused District Attorney mark peterson, a willful or construct misconduct in office. In December Peterson admitted having spent more than 66,000 in Campaign Funds on personal expenses. The superior court judge will now decide whether to hand the matter over to the d. A. s or appoint a prosecutor. Two San Francisco men, one of them a ucsf psychiatrist are charged with up loading child pornography. They were arrested on tuesday after allegedly finding more than 1200 files of child pornography on various devices inside their home on gwen a vista terrace. Investigators say dr. Lock heart seen here in a photo from ucsf website was using the universitys wifi, internet to up load graphic images of children. Ucsf says it placed dr. Lock hot on leave and is fully cooperating with the investigation. A legal battle between uber and the city of San Francisco is intensifying. City attorney Dennis Herera went to court today to compel uber to provide the names and addresses of local drivers. This so San Francisco can inform drivers of their need to pay a 91 annual fee for Business Licenses to operate in the city. Uber supports business licensing for drivers, but says posting Business Information online violates driver privacy. Ubers Northern California general manager wayne teng issued a statement earlier this month saying in part we asked the city to allow us to get the consent of drivers and remove their Public Information from the public website but they hae refused. Tonight a public outcry appears to have paid off for supporters of a detained santa rosa mother. Immigration officers are set to release her within the next hour or so. A judge approved bond for her release earlier today. An anonymous donor paid the full bond a amount. She has been in i. C. E. Detention center in richmond since february of 2016, more than a year. She has was taken into custody right after being released from an Inpatient Rehab Program for victims of Domestic Violence who also suffer from addiction. Her supporters have continually rallied for her release. They even appealed to nancy pelosi. Regents held a special meeting here to begin the process of launching their own investigation into the tampering allegation while the u. C. Reporter Embattled University of california president Janet Napolitano insists her staff was not trying to manipulate the results of the state audit. Only trying to facilitate a confusing process. Frankly, ive regretted and expressed my regret for the way my office dealt with the surveys. Send some of that money back to the campuses. Reporter last month state auditor released a scathing rport that napolitanos office had a 175 million secret fund. But perhaps most damaging, evidence napolitanos staff interfered with the survey and is the responses given by administrators at three u. C. Campuses. There was nothing done to make the president s office look better. You know, there were some changes made that made us look better, some made us look worse in the end and that hasnt come out yet. And theres no way you can spend that of all the things in the audit, that one is just a jaw dropper. The department of fish and wildlife say the fall run chinook salmon died at the Feather River hatchery in danville. A faulty wire cut off water supply to the fish. Officials say more than 2 million remaining salmon will be released over the next month. The salmon were evacuated from a main hatchery in february after the erosion of the oroville dams spillway. Nurses at one of the south bays largest hospitals are trying to stop the turnover of newly hired nurses lured away by higher wages elsewhere. They say patient care at Valley Medical Center is at stake here. Abc7 News Reporter david louie is live in san jose with the story. David . Reporter dan, some of the nurses hearsay the revolving door keeps spinning they would like to he sue stopped. Newly hired nurses come through that door get trained and then quickly leave when theyre lured away by other hospitals offering higher pay. Now, the training and retention of nurses is very important here at Valley Medical Center, especially as it keeps growing. There is a new building here that is going to be opening with many more beds come fall. The nurses march out front to make a pointment they are concerned about how patient care is being impacted by what they call a constant turnover of newly hired nurses lured away by other south Bay Hospitals with higher pay. The Nurses Professional Association conducted a Salary Survey and found starting pay to be 16 lower than the average wage at seven other hospitals. New nursing graduates get trained at valley med or vmc in a wide range of specialties including intensive care, oncology, trauma and diabetes care. But when they leave it puts pressure on other nurses. The burden is falling on our experienced nurses which leads to burn out because there is not enough nurses to stop the hospital wards. In fact, were pretty short on an average daily. Were always short. Theres always nurses working overtime. Reporter vmc has more than 1600 fulltime registered nurses. One care unit lost 32 nurses in the past three years. Laura says it does affect patient care. When i come on a shift and we have more new nurses than new hires, you have oncology and cardiac patients and the new nurses are not trained in those and we lost all the ones we trained. Reporter the facility acknowledged the role of nurses. The leadership at Santa Clara County Medical Center is working to address all of the concerns. The coach of a cal rugby player paralyzed during a game said he hasnt seen anything like it in his years of coaching. The coach spoke publicly for the first time about the career ending accident that put Robert Taylor in the icu. Taylor collided with other players and fell on his head last saturday during the National Championship game in santa clara. Doctors performed emergency surgery, but taylor is now paralyzed from the waist down. His injury has been very hard on the team. He is a beloved teammate. Hes that guy that you want to have on your team and you want to, you know, have a lasting friendship with him off the field. There will be a Prayer Service for him tonight at 8 00 on the cal campus. Norovirus outbreak spiked making millions of people sick. It is highly contagious and Consumer Reports offers advice on how to avoid getting sick and spreading the virus. Every year up to 21 million americans get sick from norovirus. Often associated with cruise ships and hospitals, it spreads easily in confined spaces. This year it forced schools and colleges all across the country to temporarily close. Often mistakenly called the stop as flu, but not related to influenza, symptoms can include vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pains and occasionally fever. You can get norovirus any time of the year but it is most common in the winter. Norovirus spreads through fecal matter, contaminated food or coming into contact with someone bhos sick with the virus. If youre close to someone who is vomiting, you may get sick through aerosolized particles. If that happens youll probably see symptoms within 12 to 48 hours. So what should you do to avoid it . Consumer reports recommends washing your hands with soap and hot water for at least 30 seconds. Especially after using the bathroom, changing diapers or handling food. Hand sanitizers alone do not work. Also if someone in your home has gotten sick with norovirus, disinfect contaminated surfaces with 5 to 25 tablespoons of household bleach per gallon of water. Wash linens, towels and clothes that might have been contaminated. Now, if you do get sick, Consumer Reports recommends staying home to avoid spreading it to others. Allow the virus to run its course. It usually takes one to three days. Drink plenty of liquids as severe dehydration can land you in the emergency room.
