headquarters in new york city. breaking overnight, new details about the nation s latest mass shooting. this time at the university of nevada las vegas. what we re learning about the suspect s possible motives. new this morning, fireworks at the fourth republican presidential debate as the gop front-runner who was not there is back in a new york city courtroom today. on capitol hill, what s next for u.s. aid to ukraine and israel after senate republicans block a bill on president biden s national security package. meanwhile, today marks two months since hamas terror attack against israel. now israel says its forces have encircled the southern gaza home of a top hamas leader, thought to be hiding under ground. and we begin this morning with another mass shooting in america. this time on a college campus at the university of nevada las vegas. three people are dead, a fourth person has been hospitalized, all just a little over a week before the semester was set to end.

[ crying ] reporter: now, she is, amazingly enough, one of the lucky ones. she had lawyers backing her up. she was able to get her initial asylum claim, the credible fear test, as they call it. she passed that and then she was able to get bond and then she got out and then she was able to identify where her child was. they flew her child in to logan, to meet her and that s the reunion we see now. we are hearing, it is possible, that the trump administration is beginning to move so the gears of immigration policy to allow more families to be reunited here. we re hearing that some families have gotten bond in southern texas and that we may begin to see more scenes like that in the days ahead.
she her law firm and other volunteers that work with her. it is a legal step but it s a huge step. they were able to pass their asylum credible fear test. which means they have a credible reason to be seeking in the u.s. that s been judged by ice. ice officials on the fourth of july working approving those bonds for the individuals. here s how the lawyer says one client reacted when she heard the news. when you told your clients you have bond. what was the response? one of them fell down on her knees. and just cried. she couldn t believe it. who was her child or children? she has a son. that is 15 years old. he s in new york. so they ll have for these people, after all of this the journey has just begun. right. for them this is a major bright
many of those children were separated from their parents as part of the zero tolerance policy. there s great pressure on the administration right now and there s a lot of movement by the administration, but we are not seeing reunifications that the administration is making on their own accord. they say they are coming. we are seeing them in other ways, though. there was a guatemalan mother who had a very emotional reunion with her 8-year-old daughter at boston s logan airport today. she was picked up in arizona in may. she passed a credible fear test of her asylum claim. and then she was bonded out. she had help from the aclu and other legal groups. it s one of these one-off reunions we have seen in other parts of the country. and then she was able to verify that she was, in fact, this young girl s mother. she got herself to logan airport. her daughter was brought into
offs ordered by a judge where the individual happened to be represented. we are lucky enough to be represented by groups. we just saw one of those in logan airport. i want to show you a little bit of this. it is very difficult to watch. it is very difficult to listen to. this is a mother who had not seen her child for two months. she was in detention. she got la bond hearing. she passed her credible fear test, meaning that she past the first step of getting asylum. she got bond hearing. she was able to locate her children and help to get to boston. her child was in another part of the country and brought in. and that is what we see there. this is not what you are seeing a result of the trump administration and efforts to bring families back together. what they are saying is before next tuesday, those under five with their families will be
