In the past one year, more than 100s NGOs, including Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust, headed by former Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, Oxfam India, Centre for Policy Research (CPR) and Care India have had their FCRA licences cancelled, suspended, denied renewal or deemed to have expired.
Save The Children said in its audited report filed in March that it has received ₹163,18,59,530 in its bank accounts and ₹66,66,444 in kind for 2021-22. The child rights group is a leading NGO which works in 16 states across the country. A senior functionary of the trust confirmed that its FCRA licence has been cancelled but did not elaborate further.
The Delhi High Court has asked the central government to respond to a plea by the Centre for Policy Research (CPR), which challenges the suspension of its Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) license. CPR had its license suspended on February 27 for alleged violation of laws. The court has asked the government to decide on CPR s application for the release of 25% of its funds by September 5.
