10th Circ revives case fighting standby fees on solar power

REUTERS/Mike Blake (Reuters) - California nonprofit Vote Solar and several owners of solar arrays in Farmington, New Mexico, can challenge the city utility’s “standby fees” on alternative energy systems in federal court, the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals held Monday. The 10th Circuit said a federal judge in Albuquerque erred in ruling that he lacked jurisdiction because the challengers and their lawyers at Earthjustice had alleged only that the fees were “inconsistent” with an antidiscrimination rule adopted by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission – not that the utility “outright failed” or “made no reasonable attempt” to implement the rule.

FARMINGTON – The city of Farmington’s Electric Utility System has reached out to the youths of Farmington to see who can create the design for an electric car’s exterior wrap by way of a contest.

Farmington Electric Utility System upgrades online bill payment system

FARMINGTON  – The thousands of customers who pay their Farmington Electric Utility System bill online will be in for a new experience. A new billing system that has been tested by the utility for a year is up and running. Customers have until May 10 to access the new system before their automated payments cease, the release said. “After this date, customers will no longer be able to access their accounts or make payments through the old system,” the release said.     City of Farmington spokesperson Georgette Allen told the Daily Times that the city will do extra outreach on its social pages and place an insert into FEUS bills to explain the upgraded system and remind people with automatic bank drafts to access the new system.
