Last year Uganda registered a remarkable increase in coffee exports. Our June 2020 coffee export performance figures from the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) in the financial year 2019/2020 indicated that we set an all-time new record of 5.10 million 60-kilogramme bags.
Export earnings also remarkably went up, bringing in $496m (Shs1.79 trillion). In the previous year, we exported 4.2 million 60 – kilogrammes bags, worth $415.1m. For a very long time, Uganda’s annual coffee production had stagnated at around 3 million 60-kg bags.

The indictment charges Nelson with one count of mail fraud for a scheme in which he allegedly shot and killed two men whom he had defrauded of $215,000 in a cattle contract. Nelson has been charged with two counts of murder in a separate state case that is scheduled for trial in June 2022.

Cloned Robusta coffee seedlings obtained from research institutes and nurseries recommended by Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) are the best planting material to go for. Some prominent farmers, too, make good cloned Robusta coffee plantlets usually with guidance from agricultural services extension officers.

The main driving force behind successful Robusta coffee growing is the interest that the farmer has in the crop as a major source of cash.
Coffee is almost as good as cash because it can easily be exchanged for money at any time of the year. The prices may sometimes fluctuate but it is a crop whose market is guaranteed as there are always traders and organisations ready to buy good quality coffee.
