Odisha all set for vaccine drive

Bubaneswar, Jan 16: The Odisha government is in readiness to vaccinate as many as 16,100 health care workers on Saturday at 161 sites spread across the state, officials said.
The inoculation drive will begin in all the centres as soon as Prime Minister Narendra Modi launches the vaccination programme at 10.30 am on Saturday, a senior health department official said. The vials have already reached all the cold-chain points and a five-member team has been readied to start the vaccination programme at all the places, Prof CBK Mohanty, Director of DMET (Directorate of Medical Education and Training) told reporters here.

Bhubaneswar: Even though the COVID-19 vaccination drive will start January 16 all over India, the Centre has issued guidelines as to who will receive the shots and who won’t. As per the guidelines people aged below 18 years, pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers will not be given vaccine shots in the first phase of vaccination.
Odisha’s Health and Family Welfare Department Director and Vaccine In-charge Bijay Panigrahi said that pregnant women and lactating mothers will not get the vaccine jab. People with ailments and those who have been hospitalised will also not be vaccinated now.

Mohapatra said about 3.70 lakh people including health workers, front line workers and others have been registered for getting the vaccine in the first phase.

The Odisha government on Friday said it is prepared to conduct a dry run for COVID-19 vaccination programme at 31 places across the state on January 2.
Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, P K Mohapatra said the dry run of vaccination programme will be held in 30 district headquarters hospitals and the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar.
