This noontime where Laphonza Butler governor newsoms appointment to fill the senate seat of the late Dianne Feinstein is about to be sworn in by Vice President Kamala Harris. Butler will be just the third black woman to serve in the us senate. No black woman has served in the chamber since Kamala Harris left to become Vice President. Butler will also be the first openly lgbtq senator from california. She is a democratic strategist.
