they re tending to be more protestant than catholic. pope francis has done a good job in the spanish-speaking communities around here of reaching out and re-establishing the sense of the old church thaw used to love. i would imagine just for the church itself, that this would bring a certain amount of support back. i as a lapsed catholic certainly like the fact thaw see the pope taking a stance on something that he truly believes in and is trying to bring people together. beyond, that you know, we re talking about the politics of dysfunction in the united states. this is probably now a presidential campaign issue. it s 2014, but it s basically 2016 as far as the election calendar is concerned. jeb bush and marco rubio will certainly be making a big deal out of this. and a lot of people in this community who support them for it. they already have today. ari said this is the definition of a significant diplomatic breakthrough. as someone that has been living and breathing the relations

candidates. shame on us for covering it. and the iowa caucasus, if fact thaw they were unable to count the votes that night, they declared the wrong person the winner. what if we had known that night that santorum had won. it would have changed thing for mitt romney. i think governor branstad is rescuing iowa too keep its position as a place we really pay attention to. starting in iowa, it s a rural state, no big cities, it s not diverse. it s almost entirely white. on the other hand, the people of iowa take this seriously. so i think a valuable thing to say but i think governor branstad can argue that he s saved iowa from itself. when you look at iowa, i mean i guess this s a question here of the democrat versus republican caucasus. what susan just said, no major cities, not that diverse, that s no in line with the demographic profile of the democrat party
cycles, the ground zero for a whole lot of retail campaigning. 2011 was an unusual year in the sense that that phase didn t begin till very late in the year. debates drove this process. now division ads to a considerable degree. we have candidates all over the state, town hall with santorum, mitt romney is coming back today and everybody will be blan eting for the last minute turnout push. i think as peter said a moment ago, the fact thaw might have the potential for a decent turnout because the weather is going to be so mild is good for a candidate whose support is broad but not particularly deep. david, let s go ahead and bring you in here. what are your thoughts on all this? which candidates do you feel are most buzzed about at this point and maybe the least? well, certainly lots of attention paid to mitt romney and ron paul because they re duking it out at the head of the polls. i would say the buzziest candidate is rick santorum
