An Edison High School team may not have seized the top prize in this year s Vans Custom Culture art contest, but they still earned a fat chunk of cash for their school s art program. The Golden Bears puro San Antonio designs were named as a runner-up in the shoe brand s annual competition, ranking among the top five student-created designs in the country and pulling in $15,000 for their program.

We recently reported on Edison High School student Roger Zamarripa Jr. s puro San Antonio design that advanced in Vans’ Custom Culture shoe design competition. Turns out, Zamarripa will be joined by other San Antonio student-artists a three-person team, also from Edison, plus a team from East Central High School in the finals of the shoe company s annual contest.

With early voting for San Antonio s May 1 election now underway, locals are keying in on stories related to issues on the ballot particularly since a few high-profile political endorsements came out this week. San Antonians were also concerned about Texas Country artist Shane Smith s lap dog Gretchen, who was in Smith s truck when it was stolen from Pearl Brewery earlier this week. Fortunately, Gretchen was later found and reunited with the musician.
