My Chemical Romance Launches Vegan Makeup Line, Sells Out Immediately

Shares Rock band My Chemical Romance recently launched a vegan makeup line that sold out in one day. The limited-edition collection, inspired by the band’s 2004 album Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge, was created in partnership with cosmetic company Hipdot.com and features a double-ended liquid liner, a double-ended retractable eye shadow brush, and a nine color eyeshadow palette with shades named after the album’s most famous lyrics, such as All The Ghosts (a gunmetal grey, influenced by “The Ghost of You”) and a rose red named Starless Eyes, inspired by “It’s Not a Fashion Statement, It’s a F cking Deathwish.” The collection also includes an autographed collector’s box with all three products.

New documentary We Are Their Voice | The Regan Russell Story which follows the story of vegan animal-rights activist Regan Russell’s death in Burlington, ON attracted 2.1 million views on Facebook, 1.2 million views on Instagram, and more than 100,000 views on YouTube in the first 24 hours of being released on social media. The documentary features eyewitness testimony, legal experts, and close family who talk about the incident that led to the death of 65-year-old Russell, who was struck and killed by a pig transport truck entering Fearmans Pork slaughterhouse on June 19. That day, she was attending a vigil at the slaughterhouse to protest Ontario’s passage of Bill 156, new ag-gag legislation that bans activists from “interacting” with farmed animals to document their abuse.

Taiwanese Vegan Pop-Up Takes Over Cocobella Creamery in Hollywood

Shares This month, vegan Taiwanese pop-up Love Boat Kitchen opened inside of the Cocobella Creamery space in Los Angeles. The pop-up was launched by best friends Belinda Wei and Alice Cherng, who own the vegan creamery but wanted to try a new concept that pays homage to their roots. Both founders are of Taiwanese descent, and Wei grew up in Texas and Cherng in California. “I can’t wait to share a part of my childhood with our customers,” Wei said. “We want to show the creativity and depth of Taiwanese food, while influenced by the American food culture. We definitely have more dishes in our pockets. This opening menu is our prologue.”

Jelly Belly Launches Vegan Gummy Candy

Shares Candy brand Jelly Belly recently launched a line of vegan gummy candy. The vegan line is available in two original and sour varieties in bags of five assorted flavors: Apple, Berry, Lemon, Orange, and Very Cherry. Typically, gummy candies are not vegan as they contain gelatin, which is made from animal-derived connective tissue. However, Jelly Belly’s new vegan gummies do not contain gelatin and are colored with ingredients from natural sources. The company is selling the new vegan gummies in 3.5-ounce bags for $2.49 and 12-packs for $27.99 on its website.  In January 2021, Jelly Belly will expand the launch to Australia, where it will sell an assortment of vegan gummy candy at gas stations, select convenience stores, and Kmart.  

70 Percent of US Households Will Serve at Least One Plant-Based Holiday Dish

Shares This holiday season, 70 percent of American households will be serving at least one plant-based dish, according to research released this week by OnePoll. The survey which was commissioned by plant-based company Eat Just polled 2,000 Americans evenly distributed into two groups of 1,000 millennials (born between 1981 and 1994) and 1,000 baby boomers (born between 1946 and 1964) to find that nearly one third of Americans expect a family member to be eating more plant-based foods this holiday season. Conducted between November 23 and November 24, the poll also found that 81 percent of millennials are more open to changing their holiday traditions, versus 71 percent of baby boomers.
