The SPD is presenting a concept for subsidizing the price of electricity for industrial companies. The proposal reportedly calls for five cents for at least five years. The difference to the average exchange electricity price, which is currently around 8.95 cents, is to be paid by the state. Chancellor Olaf Scholz is also expected to attend the consultations in the Hessian capital of Wiesbaden, where the consultations will take place. The FDP rejects an industrial electricity price and an opening of the Economic Stabilisation Fund.
RWE wants to build a gas-fired power plant at its old lignite site in Weisweiler near Aachen by 2030. The company has now awarded the contract to a consortium of two companies from Italy and Spain. The power plant will have a capacity of 800 megawatts. Such power plants are one of the prerequisites for fulfilling perhaps the Greens' greatest promise: a coal phase-out by 2030, says RWE's CEO Roger Miesen. The group has agreed with the federal government and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia to build the power plant.
