Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s Budget A team is confident that the proposals will unleash a multiplier effect in the economy, while giving a much-needed infrastructure sector push.
This expansionary Budget also caters to the immediate needs around increased spend on health and other social programmes in a post-pandemic world. Although the government proposes to go in for a large borrowing of around ₹12-lakh crore in FY 21-22 as well, the Finance Ministry honchos are confident that a roadmap is in place for accomplishing these borrowings through a mix of long and short-term instruments.

New Delhi: The PM-CARES fund, which has been set up to provide relief during the coronavirus pandemic, has contributed over Rs 2,200 crore for the first phase of vaccination drive, which is looking to inoculate frontline healthcare workers, the Expenditure Secretary said on Tuesday.
Set up in March 2020, the exact collections made by the fund through voluntary contribution by individuals and corporates, are not known but the corpus managed by the PMO has been providing relief to pandemic-hit sectors.

With the Budget for the current fiscal, which was presented before the onset of the pandemic, making no separate allocation for vaccination, more than 82 per cent of the cost of the same during January to March is being borne by the PM CARES Fund.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will be presenting India s budget for the third time. The Budget session of the Parliament will begin on January 29 with the address of President Ram Nath Kovind. And, on February 1, FM Sitharaman will be presenting the Budget in the Parliament. The budget session will be held in two parts from January 29 to February 15 and March 8 to April 8.
