Chief Craig announced his retirement from the Detroit Police Department on Monday, calling it a “bittersweet” moment after serving in the role for the last eight years. He says the decision to retire is voluntary, and that his last day will be on June 1 which will mark 44 years in law enforcement.

Rumors began circulating about Craig’s retirement at the end of last week, alongside rumors that he is considering a future in politics. Craig has not confirmed whether or not he intends to run for office, but sources say he is considering running for Michigan governor in the next gubernatorial election as a Republican.

WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – It’s officially boating season in Metro Detroit.
Wayne County Sheriff’s Office took Local 4′s Evrod Cassimy out on the open water to remind everyone of the rules so they can have a fun and safe boating season.
“We’re going to be out here as a law enforcement community to make sure that those who are boating are doing it safely. That they’re paying attention to the rules, that we are not heavy on giving tickets as much as we are going to be warning those boaters that are on the line of doing some of those things that we don’t like to see them do,” sheriff Raphael Washington said.

Thomas distinguished herself through her 30-year career with the station, covering Detroit through several mayoral administrations. She is widely respected by colleagues, and her retirement from WWJ at age 58 left many wondering if she had another job in mind.

WDIV/Local 4′s morning anchor & Detroit Public Schools honorary alumni Evrod Cassimy has partnered with the Detroit Public Schools Foundation (DPSFDN) on the launch of his new single “Good Enough”.
Evrod has a deep connection to education as both of his parents are retired educators and he says education has always been important to him.
“I’m thankful for the front-line workers within DPSCD who have worked tirelessly to provide for students during the pandemic. I wrote this song to inspire others to keep fighting through all the challenges this past year has brought us. The mask serves as a reminder to never give up because we’re all Good Enough.”
