DETROIT – After much controversy the new owner of the Detroit Popcorn Company is happy to bring change to the business that has been operating almost a whole century.
The new owner is looking forward to the future.
”I look at this endeavor as a true blessing,” said Kenneth Harris, the new owner of the Detroit Popcorn Company.
”It came totally as a surprise. I never would have ever dreamed in my life that I would own and be the proprietor of a popcorn company,” said Harris.

WDIV/Local 4′s morning anchor & Detroit Public Schools honorary alumni Evrod Cassimy has partnered with the Detroit Public Schools Foundation (DPSFDN) on the launch of his new single “Good Enough”.
Evrod has a deep connection to education as both of his parents are retired educators and he says education has always been important to him.
“I’m thankful for the front-line workers within DPSCD who have worked tirelessly to provide for students during the pandemic. I wrote this song to inspire others to keep fighting through all the challenges this past year has brought us. The mask serves as a reminder to never give up because we’re all Good Enough.”

As the new decade dawned, Detroit Popcorn Co. was poised for a record year. So, too, was Ken E. Harris, managing director and CEO of The Harris Financial Group in Pontiac.
As separate companies owned by different principals, the two enterprises were like sovereign countries. And yet, as strange as life can be at times, in 2020 Detroit Popcorn Co. was put up for sale.
“If you had told me at the beginning of 2020 that I would own Detroit Popcorn Co. before the year was out, I would have said that would be amazing. I do love popcorn, but buying the company wasn’t on my radar,” Harris says. “It wasn’t for sale. I wasn’t looking to buy it, and I had enough on my plate as it was.
