theagazin m.a.d. magazine, edition 51. in the 40s there were things you should never joke about. religion, politics, things were still sacred. m.a.d. magazine changed that. it was a precursor to underground comics in the late 60s. i never had been exposed to that kind of humor before. it was like shaking your fist at authority in a clever and funny way. in case you re not familiar with m.a.d. it s a magazine of broad attire aimed at everything americans hold. in one issue or another, m.a.d. has aimed its blunt instrument at it. i remember begging my father to buy the issue of king kong
for sessions, he voted against the matthew shepherd s act. equal pay for women. he voted against this idea of violence against women act and voted against immigration reform, everything americans believe in. you look at mike flynn, he has been able to show with his tw t tweets over and over he s anti-sim mittic and anti-muslim. you sit back and say is romney the one to pick for secretary of state. he is someone of sound mind, deeply religious. he actually cares about people. this is someone i think a lot of the world would welcome. the irony we re juxtaposed where is the future of cuba going and at the same time, where this is future of america going, we lived this history before. the one way that romney would fit in if he were picked for this cabinet is he is a gazillionaire. one of the features of these
mr. president, if that had happened, this result, i believe, would have been very, very different. it is heart breaking to the american people that senate republicans divided as they did, and decided to direct their criticism, direct their attention, direct their cannon fire at house republicans and at those standing with the american people. but yet at the same time, mr. president, to the millions of americans who rose up in the last couple of months, i want to give a word of encouragement. a word of encouragement about the path forward. a couple months tag washington establishment scoffed at the notion the american people might rise up. that was viewed as silly, parochial, couldn t happen. a couple months tag washington establishment scoffed at the notion that the house of
suffering, the harms being visited on millions of americans, is the path we have seen these past couple of months. the american people rising up. the answers are not going to come from washington. washington is broken. but the answers are going to come from the american people. so mr. president, i am today encouraged. i am encouraged by the millions of americans who want to get back to our free market principles, back to the constitution and stop this train wreck of a law that is the biggest job killer in this country. that is hurting people all across the country. it is sad that the united states senate is telling people all across this country who are struggling, who are trying on provide for their kids, and who are getting notifications in the mail, your health care has been dropped. make you have an elderly parent,
would tank. i think though, and we all agree that there s almost certain passing of this continuing resolution and debt ceiling legislation, the important thing is that the world s view of the united states, the political process, the currency and ultimately the economy has been damaged by all of this. and much of the world looks at us, at americans like the new york times mentioned this morning, mexicans do as spoiled little rich kids. as we kick this can from october 17th to early next year, there will be a cost to us in the form of higher interest rates and lower stock prices than otherwise would be the case. you look at so many countries. they can t pay their debt. we can and choose not to. there is something deeply offensive about that. what would success mean? given that success in this case, in passing this bill, is simply delaying a moment like this for another three months.
