The rampage unfolded last month across Chicago and Evanston. The suspect shot seven people - seemingly at random - before he was killed by police. Virginia McAllister, 81, says it s a miracle she s alive. She said she started her day on January 9 - the day of the deadly shooting spree - talking to her pastor and his wife. She said they gave her a blessing, and then she was off to buy a PowerBall ticket at a food mart nearby. She said she was about to leave the store when a gunman fired and a bullet hit her neck.

CHICAGO (WLS) Damia Smith, 15, fought for her life 24 days in the hospital, but died Tuesday, becoming the fifth victim of a Jan. 9 shooting rampage. She was happy, vibrant, friendly. She loved life, she really enjoyed life, said Tiffany Hammond, Damia s mother. She was a typical teen too. She loved to sleep in. The mother and daughter were in a vehicle together headed southbound on South Halsted Street near West 93rd Street when police say gunman Jason Nightengale went on a random shooting rampage from the Far South Side to Evanston. Police say he shot seven people before Evanston police killed him. Smith is the fifth to die.

Chicago, Evanston shooting: Marta Torres, woman shot by Jason Nightengale at IHOP during crime spree, dies

Marta Torres, 61, of Evanston died after she was critically wounded at an Evanston IHOP in the 100-block of Asbury Avenue last Saturday. She is one of seven people shot and three others killed by 32-year-old Jason Nightengale, according to police. Among the other victims killed was 30-year-old University of Chicago Ph.D. student Yiran Fan, 46-year-old mother of two Aisha Johnson, and 20-year-old Anthony Faulkner who had just moved back to Chicago. The three victims killed in a shooting rampage Saturday have been identified as family and friends reel from the senseless loss of their loved ones. Yiran was the first of the seven victims and was found shot to death in a Hyde Park parking garage. Friends remember him as a brilliant student and a positive, loving person.
