the author calls it the great me too awakening. will that have any impact on how this group views president trump? right now white evangelical support for the president is at an all time high despite all of the current headlines swirling around stormy daniels. joining me now the author of that op-ed peter wayner who worked in the george w. bush administration. i want to talk about the great me too awakening going on in the evangelical church. that group has not been awakened by any of the president s reprehensible behavior. that s right. we don t know if that awakening is going to happen. the point i was making with the me too movement which i think is one of the great and important social movements in modern american history is sweeping a lot of different domains. it is also i think and hope going to touch evangelical world. evangelical world is being
great corporate sponsors and new ones every year. in the last three months, we have seen an extraordinary tax cut benefiting corporate america. yes. do you see a sizable change m corporate america saying hold on a second, my tax rate went from here to here which means my responsibility to give back is so much greater and here is my new programs? are you seeing that yet? we are seeing kickup in corporate responsibility in terms of philanthropic side. i think the world of philanthropy has to be responsible. i think the thing we have to ask the private sector is what else can you do? the question is, is it a gift or is it your responsibility? thank you so much. up next, evangelical support for president trump is at an all time high. patrick woke up with a sore back. but he s got work to do.
budget cuts, state-run federally funded government programs have ended that support the poorest people, what does that do for people who have your job? how much more pressure is on you today to help new york city s poor than was, say, a year ago? i think it puts more pressure on us, but it also it forces us to flex muscles that we haven t been asked to flex before. what does that mean? really what it means i take the detector as one example. there s things we need to ask the private sector to do outside of putting morgue mon inting mo foundations. the first thing i need private sector to do is lead by example. what we mean by that is this. make sure that the employees you have on board, that you re paying them a wage and having benefits that can help them support their family. this benefits you because it s putting more people that is a beautiful idea. if i lived in lower manhattan and i needed my kids to have an afterschool program because i needed to go to work, is my b
don t, under the rules, have the power to charge him. that is an actually stunning, aka super trag thing for reals. to state as your public defense. it s not we re innocent. it s that even if we re guilty, there s a footnote in the doj from 20 years ago that says you can t charge us. there are two responses to that. one, criminal defense attorneys will try to argue whatever they can. what works best for their client. and, two, trump is playing to his base and he doesn t appear to be concerned that that type of defense will impact upon his base of support. i have a response to your response which is i don t care what the political strategy to his base is. i m making a point how disturbing it is if that s the stated public position of the president of the united states. i would like to say that i care about everything you have to say. so you re always welcome to join me. you might not want to join sassy pants or on his show. everybody s welcome. i m going to wrap this
