relatives sent her rushing up the basement steps of the family s house on singleton terrace. as soon as i come upstairs the backdoor, like i see like flames coming towards the house. reporter: barron says she, her boyfriend s mother, grandmother and little sister barely made it out before the fire consumed the garage. everything is gone. reporter: carlos mateo saw the flames as he returned home from renting a movie and was panic stricken not knowing if his family was safe. i rushed to the house and tried getting everybody out of. reporter: a similar scenario was being played out a few blocks away on addison woods road almost simultaneously. shawn chow was inside with his mother and aunt when their garage ignited. the whole garage was on fire already, burned. so i couldn t do anything. then i tell them to get out of the house. reporter: two cars were destroyed along with the garage and its contents. investigators say they believe the two fires are related and both were
