Nets J.R. Holden: ‘We would like to keep Mike James’

J.R. Holden knows about about European basketball. He played 20 years over there, winning 12 national titles in four different countries, two Euroleague championships with CSKA Moscow and hit the dagger that won Team Russia the FIBA Europe championship over Spain in 2007.
Now, he’s the director of player personnel for the Nets after holding similar scouting jobs in Philly and Detroit. So he qualifies as an expert on basketball around the world. And in an interview with Gazzetta, the Greek sports site published Friday, he praised another former CSKA star playing in Brooklyn, Mike James, and said the Nets hope they can keep the 6’2” combo guard beyond the playoffs “and a few more years!”. After two 10-day deals, James signed a rest-of-the-season deal last week. He’ll be a restricted free agent in the summer.

European site: Nets plan to sign Mike James for rest of season once 10-day is up

Eurohoops, the official fan site of the Euroleague, reported Thursday that once Mike James’ second 10-day deal expires on May 13, the Nets plan to re-sign the 6’1” point guard for the rest of the season and playoffs.
Dionysis Aravantinos, who had been among the first writers to suggest the Nets would sign James, wrote.
According to Eurohoops sources, the Brooklyn Nets are planning to sign Mike James for the rest of the season and through the NBA playoffs once his second 10-day contract expires on May 13. James signed his second 10-day contract with Brooklyn on Monday.

However, Milan had not been to European basketball s flagship event in 29 years until it secured its return this season. The Final Four was introduced in 1966, but lasted only two seasons. Milan defeated Slavia Prague in Bologna, Italy, in the first championship game and lost to Real Madrid in the title game in the Spanish capital a year later. Milan was the reigning EuroLeague champion when the Final Four was reintroduced for the 1988 season and defended its title by beating Maccabi Tel Aviv in Ghent, Belgium. However, the club has not won the title since and its lone Final Four appearance after that was in 1992.
Milan avoids collapse, ends Final Four drought
AX Armani Exchange Milan narrowly avoided a massive collapse in ending a nearly three-decade wait by defeating FC Bayern Munich 92-89 at home in Game 5 to reach the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Final Four. Shavon Shields poured in a career-high 34 points to lead the three-time European champion, which last played in the Final Four in 1992. Milan led by as many as 17 points and was still up 12 points with 78 seconds left in the game. But through a series full of amazing comebacks, Bayern did not give up and had possession of the ball down just 2 points in the final 14 seconds until Kyle Hines came up with a big defensive stop for Milan - to go along with his 12 points and 7 rebounds. Malcolm Delaney added 16 points as Milan avoided becoming the first team in EuroLeague history to lose a playoff series after winning the first two games.
