PORTSMOUTH, Va. - A rally to support a Portsmouth man s plea to be released from prison is set for Saturday at 1 p.m. at Portsmouth City Hall. Friends, family and some state lawmakers say Ronald Davis 80 year prison sentence for a string of armed robberies when he was a high school senior was too excessive.
âI deserve a punishment. Robbery is a serious crime deserving a serious punishment, but to have my whole life taken away from me as an 18-year-old child [is excessive],â said inmate Ronald Davis, who has served 23 years in prison to date for the 1997 robberies. âI don`t deserve this.â
