EUGENE, Ore. – After much deliberation following protests for racial justice over the summer of 2020, a city committee on police policies has submitted its report to the Eugene City Council.
Among many other changes being recommended are limits to use of force by officers, including new restrictions on the use of force and munitions to disperse protests. Police would have to prove criminal activity is taking place and take several outlined de-escalation steps.
The committee’s recommendations begin on page 48 of the document, attached below.

OFRI is vital
The Oregon Legislature should reject a slew of proposed bills that eliminate or de-fund the Oregon Forest Resources Institute. OFRI is the commodity commission for the Oregon forest products sector, one of Oregon’s largest industries, and is virtually identical to more than 20 other grower-supported commodity commissions in Oregon, including the Oregon Blueberry Commission, the Oregon Wine Board and the Oregon Beef Council.
I have seen the benefit of OFRI’s work personally and can say with certainty that without its programming, Oregonian students would be worse off.

From the City Club of Eugene:
Even those who believe Eugene is a practically perfect place to call home occasionally see a gap where an asset should be. What that gap seems to be depends on where they are standing. What constitutes the right asset to fill it depends on their understanding of community. In this annual program, City Club invites people from different corners of our little world to imagine they have been given a magic wand with the sole purpose of conjuring up a gift that would perfectly meet our collective need. We ask them to give this virtual gift to the City. In a year when we have removed from our public collection some monuments that have passed their prime, we encouraged givers to imagine filling those spaces with new monuments, symbolizing the message of their gift.
