BRITAIN is set for an influx of investment in the motor sector following the signing of the Brexit trade deal with the EU, an industry leader has said.

The EU agreed in principle terms for investment from China at the end of 2020, with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen suggesting earlier this month they forced Beijing to commit to an end to forced labour. Walter Lohman, director of the Asian Studies Centre at the Heritage Foundation’s US think tank, said the EU “got used” by China with their Comprehensive Agreement on Investment (CAI).

The UK’s trade deal with Singapore comes into effect this weekend and is just one of latest in a series of agreements the Government is trying to broker around the globe.

The UK may have only exited the transition period at the start of 2021, but significant differences between the way in which the EU and Britain are run have already appeared. Britain finally left the EU on December 31 after signing a lucrative Trade and Corporation Agreement with the bloc worth more than £600billion to the UK economy. Fishing proved to be one of the most divisive issues of the landmark deal and, under the terms of the agreement, the UK will leave the Common Fisheries Policy and will gradually reduce the number of EU catches in British waters to 25 percent by 2026.
