As many as 645 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in Kottayam on Wednesday.
Of the fresh cases, 638 persons contracted the virus through local transmission. The daily test positivity rate (TPR) of the district remained at 11.78%.
With 99 cases, Kottayam municipality reported the highest number of cases, followed by Ettumanur with 27 cases. As many as 830 persons recovered from the disease during the day, bringing down the total active cases in the district to 5,023, while 33,783 others remain in quarantine for suspected symptoms of the disease.
TPR at 12.6%
In Pathanamathitta, 545 persons tested positive for the disease on Wednesday. Of this, 541 persons contracted the virus through local transmission. The contact source of seven cases were yet to be ascertained. The TPR for the day was 12.6% in the district.

Kottayam registers 707 new cases
Alappuzha district reported 1,337 COVID-19 cases on Thursday. The test positivity rate (TPR) for the day was down to 10.95%. It also recorded 17 COVID-19-related deaths.
Among the fresh cases, 1,318 people contracted the virus through local contact, while the source of infection of 16 others remains unidentified. Two persons who came from other States and one health staff were also diagnosed with the disease.
Meanwhile, 2,194 people in the district recovered. The active COVID-19 caseload stands at 16,531.
On Thursday, the police registered 44 cases and arrested 19 people for violating the restrictions imposed to check the spread of COVID-19 in the district.
Lathika Subash joins NCP

Former president of the Kerala Mahila Congress Lathika Subash has joined the Nationalist Congress Party.
Announcing her decision here on Tuesday, Ms. Subash said several disgruntled leaders and workers from the Congress were expected to follow her. “Discussions are already on with them and a formal announcement will be made soon,” she said.
Explaining her decision to join a party in the Left Democratic Front, Ms. Subash said the LDF indeed gave more space to women as was evident from the presence of three ministers in the Cabinet. “In the recent elections, they could send 10 women to the Assembly. The one victory that gave me utmost joy, however, is that of K.K. Rema in Vadakara,” she said.
She announced her resignation from the AICC and KPCC recently after being denied a party ticket in Ettumanur during the recently held Assembly election.
