705 The debate on women’s participation in male dominated economic activities in society has been on for some time now, particularly in the rural part of the country. While some argue that women are equally capable of undertaking men’s task even better, others believe that they are only limited to household activities. For those who were against women’s increased participation in male dominated economic and social functions, their argument was based on socio-cultural practices and beliefs. Well, some young women in the Northern, North East, Savannah, Oti and Volta regions have dared to change the age long tradition as they have been enrolled in male dominated professions such as carpentry, masonry, welding, painting, fabrication and glazing, general electrical works, among others.

Pupils of Darul-Hardis JHS lauds Savana Signatures for helping them fight COVID By Ken-zorre Edward A JAN 27, 2021 The pupils and management of Darul -Hardis Junior High School in the Sagnarigu Municipality, Northern Region of Ghana has lauded Savana Signatures for donating hand washing equipment and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to them. The donation was part of the organisation s activities to commemorate the International Day of Education. The pupils were further engaged on this year s theme Recover and Revitalize Education for the COVID-19 Generation as well as sensitized on the best ways to adhere to the COVID-19 safety protocols. Abdul-Karim Mariam, a student expressed excitement for coming back to school to continue learning and stated, “the nose masks given to us by Savana Signatures would help every student to have enough to protect him or herself now that schools have reopened”

Ghana Calls For Renewed Protection To Stop Child Marriages

  Girls Not Brides (GNB) Ghana, a National network of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) into eradicating child marriages has renewed calls for protection of girls in the society amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Mrs Gertrude Eunice Maasodong, National Chairperson of the GNB, who made the call during its annual AGM in Cape Coast, appealed to all stakeholders into girls’ welfare to complement efforts by government and NGOs in combating Child Marriages. The AGM was deliberated on innovative strategies to keep girls out of early or forced marriages in Ghana especially during this global pandemic. It also reviewed the past year and deliberated on some critical documents that guided the daily operations of the network like the constitution, financial policy, and administrative manual as well as the network’s strategic plan, which will give direction for the year 2021 and beyond.
