SOUTH YARMOUTH A worker was flown to an off-Cape hospital Monday after a concrete slab fell on him at a home construction site on Cranberry Lane.
At about 11:25 a.m., rescuers responded to 235 Cranberry Lane, where the 4,000-pound slab had fallen on his chest, breaking several of his bones, said Yarmouth Fire Chief Philip Simonian.
The other workers at the construction site were able to use a pry bar to lift the slab enough to drag him out from underneath it, Simoniansaid. Fire and police officers used ladders to get him out of the hole he was working in.
BOURNE “Stop the Steal,” a cry which has become popular in right-wing corners of the internet, spilled out onto the Bourne Rotary Wednesday morning, as about 50 people loyal to President Donald Trump continued to complain about the election results that have already weathered 60 legal challenges and come out in favor of President-elect Joe Biden.
A few hours later, hundreds of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol in Washington, D.C., in an attempt to halt the counting on the Electoral College votes and overturn the results of the presidential election.
The U.S. has spent two and a half centuries defending democracy, U.S. Rep. Bill Keating tweeted from Washington, D.C., Wednesday afternoon, and when we see mobs storming parliaments to overturn the will of the people, we speak out against them on a bipartisan basis.

BARNSTABLE A Barnstable police officer filed a lawsuit against the town, police Chief Matthew Sonnabend, Deputy Chief Mark Cabral and Lt. John Murphy, saying he was pushed out of his job as a detective because of his age and for reporting Murphy for allegedly drinking on the job.
Brian Guiney, a 35-year-veteran on the force, filed the civil complaint in Barnstable Superior on Tuesday. The complaint claims his supervisors engaged in both age discrimination and retaliation against him for raising complaints about Murphy, another longtime member of the department.
Murphy said he wasn’t comfortable commenting for this story because he hadn’t yet been formally served in the case. Sonnabend and Cabral did not respond to requests for comment Wednesday.
