BARNSTABLE A Barnstable police officer filed a lawsuit against the town, police Chief Matthew Sonnabend, Deputy Chief Mark Cabral and Lt. John Murphy, saying he was pushed out of his job as a detective because of his age and for reporting Murphy for allegedly drinking on the job.
Brian Guiney, a 35-year-veteran on the force, filed the civil complaint in Barnstable Superior on Tuesday. The complaint claims his supervisors engaged in both age discrimination and retaliation against him for raising complaints about Murphy, another longtime member of the department.
Murphy said he wasn’t comfortable commenting for this story because he hadn’t yet been formally served in the case. Sonnabend and Cabral did not respond to requests for comment Wednesday.
