like that, you start to get extreme. where is that going on the political landscape? that s a good question. we ve seen alexandria ocasio-cortez said early on in her campaign she was for abolishing i.c.e. this is a position some other candidates are starting to take on. it will be interesting to see if people in swing districts, in house races, these competitive seats, if they re going to face pressure to take similar positions. i would be skeptical they would take those positions. they don t want to be cast as extremes of their party. important to note that alexandria ocasio-cortez won in a very democratic district. she kind of can go out there, be more liberal than some of these folks in other race as well. liz: as we start sort of seeing this primary season continue, when you see rhetoric like this and they are the extremes, do the establishment characters, like nancy pelosi, do they want to rein that in. it depends on the district. you see leaders like leader
odds with the people who lead it. we ve seen that time and time again. we saw again just last night with the steve bannon interview that the former adviser to the president still pretty much in his camp. plans a war on republican establishment characters in next year s election. so i think people misunderstood independent to mean something that i didn t mean it to mean. i meant someone not part of the two parties. that doesn t mean he s not conservative or hasn t worked with republicans or advanced a conservative agenda. he has chosen to govern mainly from the right so far but you know better than i do. a lot of republicans would not consider him to be one of their own. so i thought about this comment that sarah palin made after the 2008 campaign and she said i m so happy to be unshackled from my pesky advisers. i thought people might have received the word unshackled or unhinged a little better. and i understand what you re saying but part of the problem is just keeping it real here
mcsally stands. so to answer your overall question, it would be an extraordinary shock if she didn t. i would say and it would throw this entire race into turmoil. it s already going to be a close race, even if mcsally wins. but if arpaio or ward were to win, there s definitely a feeling that that would throw the general election of the democrats. we should note here, in this case, you ve got sort of one kind of one candidate sort of favored to the establishment, two challengers, more associated with trumpism. that was sort of the opposite in alabama, right, where you had the one established you had the sort of two different establishment characters in roy moore. so the path mere works in mcsally s favor. but to give a sense of just how intensely extreme the fidelity to donald trump has been in the primary, i want to play the little clip, the interview you had with joe arpaio today about the passing of john mccain. take a listen. do you think john mccain was a patriot? yes.
