As many as 160 tourists were trying to cross an overflowing stream to get to a waterfall in Telangana's Mulugu district were successfully rescued early on Thursday by members of the NDRF and other rescuers. The visitors were rescued at the Mutyamdhara waterfall in Mulugu district on Wednesday because they couldn't exit the jungle due to a stream being in spate.
The two teenaged girls, who were crossing the stream, did not realise the current of water and got swept away, police said. Their bodies were found by local people later, they said. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao directed Education Minister P Sabita Indra Reddy to declare holidays to all educational institutions in the state on Wednesday and Thursday in view of the heavy rains, an official release said.
